More aviation jobs coming to Macon

Texas-based Dean Baldwin Painting, a woman-owned company that paints military and commercial aircraft, and the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority (MBCIA) are partnering to build a new state-of-the-art aircraft paint facility at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport. The $21-million-plus investment will create 115 new jobs in Macon-Bibb County.
The 127,000-square-foot facility will house four paint bays along with administrative and warehouse space. The county won the project over other locations in the South and Southeast that were under consideration. Dean Baldwin Painting CEO Barbara Baldwin-McNulty says it will address the company’s need for more capacity while placing the operation closer to current and new customers.
Dean Baldwin Painting has a successful worker training program aimed at helping unskilled workers transition from other occupations. MBCIA Chair Robby Fountain says the company’s decision to locate in Macon-Bibb County reflects the growing presence of the aerospace industry in the region.
