Economic Development Around the State

On Track: Norfolk Southern Corp. is moving its headquarters from Virginia to Atlanta. The $575-million investment will create 850 jobs at the new Fulton County campus.


Taliaferro Chicken: Harrison Poultry Inc. is creating 102 jobs and investing $70 million into a new feed mill and hatchery in Taliaferro County. The Crawfordville facility will also help support up to 165 new broiler houses and produce up to 18,000 tons of feed weekly.


Gwinnett Expansion: Transportation company Hapag-Lloyd America will invest $5.5 million to expand its service center in Peachtree Corners. The expansion will add 363 jobs.


Hybrid Batteries: SK Innovation is building a manufacturing plant in Jackson County. The company, which makes lithium-ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles, will invest $1.7 billion and create more than 2,000 jobs over two phases.


Savannah Distribution: Online home retailer Wayfair Inc. is opening a 1.2-million-square-foot facility in Savannah. The $45-million project will create 1,000 jobs over the next five years.


Thomasville Manufacturing: Check-Mate Industries Inc., which makes metal stampings, assemblies, tools and dies, will invest more than $16 million into a manufacturing facility in Thomasville, creating 230 jobs.


Pet Food in McDonough: General Mills is investing $8.5 million to open a distribution facility for Blue Buffalo pet products in Henry County that will create more than 50 jobs.
