Economic Development Around the State

Traveling Through: Georgia’s tourism industry had a $60.8-billion impact on the state’s economy last year, generated $3.1 billion in state and local tax revenue and employs more than 450,000 people in the state.


Bienvenue: Atlanta has landed Groupe PSA’s North American headquarters. The French manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles, including Peugeot, Citroën and Vauxhall Motors, is the second-largest carmaker in Europe and one of the top ride-sharing providers in the world.


Studio Space: One year after it opened, Blackhall Studios, a sound stage complex in southeast Atlanta, is at capacity. The studio will double its square footage in an up-to- $100-million investment.


Healthcare Overhaul: Southeast Georgia Health System is renovating its Brunswick hospital. The $125-million project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020, includes an overhaul of its emergency room and surgical suites and an update to some patient rooms.


Helping More: Easterseals West Georgia is growing at its Columbus campus. The $10.8-million project will include a new two-story, 23,500-square-foot building. When completed, the facilities will double the number of people the nonprofit can help each day, from 250 to 500.


Animal Kingdom: A new safari attraction will be built on roughly 500 acres in Madison. The Georgia Safari Conservation Park project will also include 80 lodging units, zipline, ropes course and carousel.


Central Location: Northside Hospital is consolidating several functions into a 180,000-square-foot building in Brookhaven, bringing 400 jobs.
