Green innovators honored

The Georgia Water Coalition, an Athens-based alliance of more than 240 organizations devoted to conservation and the environment, recently released a report highlighting the clean water efforts of 13 groups. The Clean 13 for 2017 were chosen for activities they have pursued that have led to cleaner water in our state.
The honorees are:
- City of Atlanta: stormwater management ordinance
- Cox Enterprises, Atlanta: water recycling
- Solar Crowdsource, Decatur: small business and residential solar to protect rivers
- Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources, Atlanta: protection of Paulding County’s Raccoon Creek
- Georgia Tech, Atlanta: water efficiency projects on campus
- Ladybug Farms, Clayton: rainwater harvesting
- Macon Water Authority: innovative pipe restoration to protect the Ocmulgee River
- Mark Masters, director, Water Planning and Policy Institute, Albany: data provided to shape Georgia water policy
- State Rep. John Meadows, Calhoun, chair of the House Rules Committee: lead on bills protecting drinking water
- Scott Bridge Company, Opelika, Ala.: innovative bridge design and construction near Baxley protected endangered fish and mussels in the Altamaha River
- South Fork Conservancy, Atlanta: $4.5 million restoration and trail project on Peachtree Creek
- Storm Water Systems, Cleveland: trash traps remove litter from streams
- United Parcel Service, Atlanta: storm water pollution reduced in locations throughout the state
