Economic Development Around the State

Fashion Forward: Global fashion and beauty retailer ASOS is opening its East Coast e-commerce fulfillment center in Union City. The $40-million investment will bring 1,600 new jobs to Fulton County over the next five years.


Savannah Distribution: Safavieh, a New York-based home goods manufacturer and distributor, is investing $60 million into a new distribution facility in Chatham County. The company will create 200 jobs at the 1.1-million-square-foot site.


Macon Tissues: Irving Consumer Products, a Canadian paper products producer, is investing $400 million into a tissue manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County, creating more than 200 jobs.


Rockmart Expansion: Meggitt Polymers & Composites, which manufactures environmental components, is expanding in Rockmart. The $30-million investment will add 211 jobs to its existing 1,000 employees in Polk County.


Another Studio: A new 24-acre, six-stage film studio is opening in Fayette County. The $58-million Cinema South Studios will break ground by the end of this year and be completed by December 2019.


Consolidation: Logistics company C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. is consolidating its Duluth and East Point offices into a 20,000-square-foot space in downtown Atlanta, creating 200 jobs.


Social Influencer: Digital marketing company Sideqik is moving to Atlanta’s West Midtown area, with plans to add 50 jobs over the next two years.


Bubbling Over: A study by the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Beer Institute reports that the beer industry contributes more than $8.4 million each year to Georgia’s economy supporting more than 53,000 jobs in the state.
