Economic Development: July 2015

Jenkins Expansion: MI Metals is expanding in Jenkins County. The aluminum extrusion company will invest $2 million over the next three years to expand its facility by 120,000 square feet and work with the Quick Start program to fill 100 new positions.

Chatham Plastics: Israeli plastics company Bram Industries will be building its first U.S. manufacturing site in Savannah. The $3-million investment will create 60 new jobs.

Porsche Opening: After nearly three years in development, Porsche’s 27-acre U.S. headquarters celebrated its grand opening in May. The $100-million facility in the aerotropolis area next to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will have about 400 employees, 100 of those new. 

Columbus Mixed Use: A new five-acre commercial development has been announced for north Columbus. The property, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2016, will include a new corporate headquarters for Childcare Network, along with a Keller Williams real estate office, Southern States Bank branch and 10,000 square feet of additional retail space.

Home Base: Dutch banking software company Backbase will locate its North American headquarters in Atlanta. The move will create 150 jobs over the next several years.

Valdosta Nuts: South Georgia Pecan Co. is expanding its Valdosta facility. The $5.6-million investment will add 20 jobs and 74,000 square feet to the company’s existing processing plant.
