Economic Development: November 2014

Top Bird: Georgia is No. 1 again, this time with a cluck. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Georgia is the top producer of chicken in the country, with nearly 2.5 million metric tons of fowl annually – that’s about 9.3 million pounds of chicken a day. The poultry industry brings in $38 billion for the state and employs 138,000.

Sleep Tight: American Textile Company (ATC) is expanding in Tifton, where it has operated a bedding products manufacturing and distribution facility since 2011. The $10-million investment will create more than 100 new jobs over the next three years.

Clean Move: Tokyo-based Haso Ltd., which makes personal use cleaning products, will open its U.S. manufacturing operations in Peachtree Corners. The $7-million investment will bring 170 new jobs.

New Call Center: TSYS is opening a new 62,000-square-foot contact center in Henry County, creating 450 jobs. The Columbus-based global payments company’s new facility will open by the end of 2014.

Auto Expansion: Neaton Rome Inc. is expanding in Floyd County. The automotive product manufacturer will invest $8 million and add 50 new jobs.

More Boats: Chaparral Boats is expanding in Berrien County, adding 50 jobs.

Industrial Burners: Finnish energy and environment technology company Oilon is opening its first U.S.-based facility in Thomasville. The Thomas County location will produce industrial burners for its North American customers and create 50 jobs over the next five years.

Import/Export: Irving, Texas-based Neovia Logistics opened a new 170,000-square-foot container cross dock operation in Savannah in partnership with Caterpillar. The facility will handle parts coming in for the new Caterpillar manufacturing plant in Athens, as well as export Caterpillar parts to other countries.

Biomed: ADMA BioCenters, which collects donated human plasma for use by its parent company in the manufacture of specialty plasma-based biologics for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, opened a new $1.5-million, 15,000-square-foot expansion to its Norcross facility, adding 20 jobs.

Coastal Expansion: Gulfstream Aerospace is building a $33-million paint facility near its maintenance buildings at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport that will bring up to 100 new jobs.
