Organizations: TurningPoint Women’s Healthcare

At TurningPoint Women’s Healthcare, anyone who walks in the door can be assured that someone knows exactly what she is experiencing with breast cancer.

“I’m a survivor, like most of our staff members who are either survivors or have had a family member or close friend go through this, so we ‘get’ those side effects and other issues with treatment and recovery,” says Jill Binkley, a physical therapist and executive director of the clinic, which just marked its 10th anniversary offering specialized and evidence-based rehabilitation for women with breast cancer, including physical therapy, massage therapy, and emotional and nutritional counseling. “We’re unique in that there is not another nonprofit in the Southeast offering all of these services under one roof.”

The Alpharetta-based facility, with its staff of physical therapists, massage therapists, counselors and dietitians, will be relocating soon to a larger and more convenient location near the Northridge exit of Ga. 400, easily accessed by public transportation.

“A bigger space will mean we can serve more women,” Binkley says. “If a woman has insurance, we can bill the company for physical therapy, but financial assistance is available for those who are uninsured or underinsured, and most of our services for women with advanced or metastatic cancer are free, anyway.”

TurningPoint also offers monthly education classes and exercise programs, along with bilingual and outreach programs in low-income, underserved communities.

“We can help a woman who just received a diagnosis, or someone who may have had surgery years ago but still deals with physical or emotional issues,” Binkley says. “We never turn anyone away for any reason.”

The nonprofit will hold its annual Tourney for TurningPoint charity golf tournament October 13-14 at Dunwoody Country Club in Atlanta.
