Economic Development: February 2015

Big Get: In a major coup, Mercedes Benz is relocating its national headquarters from New Jersey to metro Atlanta, bringing 800 jobs. Georgia was competing with North and South Carolina, Texas and Florida for the new headquarters, which will open in temporary space this summer while a new facility is under construction.


Harris Relocation: Hyundai Glovis Georgia is relocating its parts consolidation center to a new 310,000-square-foot facility in West Point. The company will assemble and distribute automotive parts from the Harris County facility, creating 190 jobs over the next four years.


Hartwell Auto: Häring, a German manufacturer of automotive components, is opening its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Hart County. The $54-million, 196,000-square-foot facility will create 800 jobs over the next 10 years.


Fresh Distribution: Cincinnati-based fresh produce distributor Castellini Group of Companies is building a $52-million, 180,000-square-foot fresh-cut fruits and vegetables processing plant in Conley. The Clayton County distribution center, which will bring 300 new jobs, will allow the company to reach 80 percent of the U.S. market within a single day’s drive.


Stephens Co. Expansion: GEM Southeast Inc. is expanding its operations in Toccoa. The new 110,000-square-foot facility, which will be completed by the end of 2015, will manufacture bathroom stalls and fixtures. The $10 million expansion will create 30 jobs.


Healthy Farm Animals: Elanco, an animal health product company, is investing $100 million into expanding its Augusta plant, creating 100 new  jobs over the next three years.
