Economic Development: August 2013

 

Downtown Move: The Coca-Cola Co. is opening its Information Technology Center of Excellence in downtown Atlanta. The facility will house nearly 2,000 employees.

Recycling in Bibb: Go Green Plastics LLC has opened in Macon with five employees. It expects to hire another 20 by the end of the year.

Henry Hospital: Fair-view Medical Center re-cently broke ground in Henry County. When it is completed in 2014, the development will employ more than 1,300 people and generate a $185-million economic impact.

Vet Training: Warner Robins is getting a $10-million education and training center for veterans. The 50,000-square-foot facility is a collaboration be-tween Georgia’s technical and university systems and military agencies. Ground-breaking is expected to occur in 2014.

Software: Nuesoft, a medical software provider, is expanding in Atlanta, adding up to 200 jobs over the next few years.

Automotive in Monroe: Hitachi Automotive Sys-tems is doubling its workforce in Walton County, creating 250 new jobs. The expansion will include a new 290,000-square-foot facility and represents an $80-million investment.

Relocation: PulteGroup, a homebuilder known for its Centex Homes and Del Webb communities, is relocating its corporate headquarters from Michigan to Atlanta. The move will create 310 new jobs and represents a $10-million investment.

Medical Office Park: Resurgence Park, a $30-million, 30-acre medical office park, is under construction in Oconee County. The development will include medical office buildings, an assisted living facility and a hotel and is scheduled to open in 2014.

Carroll Expansion: Greenway Medical Tech-nologies, Inc. recently expanded its Carrollton campus. The $12-million investment includes the addition of 300 new jobs.

Statewide Hires: AT&T has announced it will be hiring more than 600 new employees across the state in network construction and maintenance, customer support and retail.

Marketing in Buckhead: ExactTarget is ex-panding in Atlanta, bringing 225 jobs to Buckhead and investing $1.25 million. The Indiana-based digital marketing firm provides email and other electronic marketing services.

Retail: The $76-million, 68-acre Epps Bridge Center in Oconee County saw its first signs of life this June when the Georgia Theatre Co.’s flagship University 16 Cinemas opened.
